Diez Coronas 2

Diez Coronas begins with an everyday object.

Each work is created on an IKEA woven doormat, TIOKRONA. Removed from its original context, the mat becomes a canvas where material, memory and history converge.

The coarse jute immediately brought Mallorca to mind. Its texture evokes traditional natural fibres, craftsmanship and the sun-bleached landscapes of the island. It became the natural foundation for a visual language in which the ancient meets the contemporary.

The figures draw inspiration from prehistoric rock carvings, cave paintings and the early symbolic language of the Mediterranean, reinterpreted through the raw, direct energy of contemporary graffiti. Embroidered threads cut through the earthy surface, anchoring spray paint as if applied to a weathered stone. The works create a dialogue between archaeology and street culture, between the enduring and the ephemeral.

The title Diez Coronas — Spanish for Ten Kronor — is a playful translation of TIOKRONA. It points back to the works’ humble origins while transforming an ordinary everyday object into something carrying a new history.
